Cleaning and Minor Overhauls

Over the course of many years dust, dirt, and debris can build up in an organ which is the cause of pipes no longer sounding as good as they should, losing brilliance and proper speech. It can also cause problems with all types of organ action. Every church and organ is different, but an organ should be cleaned between every 20-30 years.

Cleaning can be done on its own, or as part of a restoration or minor works. Pipes are clean individually, inside and out. During this process any pipe repairs that are needed are carried out and all the pipes are regulated and voiced as necessary. While the pipes are out, the whole organ is cleaned freeing any action problems and aiding future maintenance.

Minor overhauls can include things such as patching or re leathering bellows, repairing action or pipes, voicing and regulation, and restoration of individual chests. This work can sometimes be carried out without removing pipes or having to have a major overhaul of the organ.
